Theologies of the Digital is a biennial international research colloquium that examines the intersection of theology and digital technologies. Since 2019, the colloquium has brought together scholars, theologians, technologists, and researchers to explore how digital technologies are reshaping religious thought, practice, and understanding.

The fourth installment of the Theologies of the Digital colloquium turns to the question of artificial intelligence at the intersection of technological development and social imagination. How do theological traditions help us think critically and constructively about AI? What resources do they offer for imagining AI not merely as a technical artifact, but as a socially embedded phenomenon?

What is Theologies of the Digital?

Theologies of the Digital is a biennial international research colloquium that examines the intersection of theology and digital technologies. Since its founding in 2019, it has brought together scholars, theologians, technologists, and researchers from Europe and the United States.

What is the theme of TotD IV?

The theme is “Imagining AI Between the Technological and the Social.” The colloquium will explore how theological traditions can help us think critically and constructively about artificial intelligence as both a technological development and a socially embedded phenomenon.

When and where is the next conference?

TotD IV will take place June 13–15, 2027, at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, Connecticut. The conference runs from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday afternoon.

What is the relationship with GoNeDigiTal?

TotD IV takes place in conjunction with the GoNeDigiTal conference hosted by the Global Network for Digital Theology. The two events share a joint keynote and panel session on June 14, followed by hybrid GNTD sessions on June 15 and 16.
